“Aspiring talents have already started sending in their entries via email. To become the next MTV Base VJ, send a brief video clip explaining why you should be the next VJ on MTV Base, or head down to the 2012 MTV Base VJ Search – Nigeria auditions which will take place at Fantasy Land, Lagos on the 1st of December,” Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, Alex Okosi says.
Banky W (@BankyW) has already signed up as one of the judges for the VJ search, with more judges to be revealed next week. Together, they will be helping identify the brand new VJ who will become one of the key faces of the music network, hosting programmes on MTV Base and on the MTV Base block on STV. The winner will also interview stars, emcee parties and concerts, walk the red carpet at entertainment events and travel all over the continent representing MTV Base.
MTV Base’s new VJ will be following in the footsteps of veteran MTV Base VJ Cynthia “C-Von” Okpala who won MTV Base’s first ever Nigerian VJ search in 2007. Cynthia subsequently hosted many MTV Base programmes and showbiz events, co-hosted syndicated radio show “MTN Yellow Top 10 Countdown” and starred as “Ify” in MNet TV series “Tinsel”.
“For me, winning the first Nigerian MTV Base VJ Search was the most awesome way of breaking into the TV and entertainment business,” comments Cynthia Okpala, “Five years ago, winning the search totally changed my life and it’s fantastic that MTV Base is now offering the same opportunity to new kids on the block who want to get their break into the entertainment business.”
“The most important quality required in an MTV Base VJ is that they should have the ability to communicate with and connect to our audience,” comments Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa. “We’re looking for someone who lives and breathes youth culture, with a bright and engaging personality and lots of energy and confidence.”
