With The Super Eagles of Nigeria set to battle other countries for honors at the Brazil 2014 World Cup which kicks off in a few days, the team’s sojourn to the top echelon of African football has been captured beautifully in a new documentary produced by Ndani TV titled “The Rise of the Eagles.”
It is a 3 part documentary which features interviews with some of Nigeria’s leading football figures such as Paul Bassey, Mitchell Obi, Mumuni Alao,Austin Eguavoen, Stephen Keshi and Daniel Amokachi amongst others. The documentary chronicles the team’s early struggles, eventual ascension to the top in 1980 and 1994, its 19-year barren spell at the Nations Cup and eventual triumph at the 2013 African Nations Cup in South Africa.
Shot over a period of one year across different parts of Nigeria, the documentary fills the yawning knowledge gap of the inside workings of successful Super Eagles teams of 1994 and 2013, the key characters for those successes, the Mafia myth in the team, the issues around Nigeria’s withdrawal from South Africa 1996 and the consequences of that action by the late General Sani Abacha’s administration.
With exclusive, never before seen footage, The Rise of the Eagles is a must watch for any true fan of not just the Super Eagles but football in general. The Rise of the Eagles will air on national television, the premier date will be announced in the near future and it will also be available for viewing on http://ndani.tv as well as on YouTube (www.youtube.com/ndanitv).
