DJ Coublon stopped by to chat with Rexx and Ife on ‘The Drop Spot’ and naturally, the conversation veered from his entry into Lagos to the production of the monster hits that have been credited to him. While Ife was being soft on him, Rexx went in and asked if he knew Kiss Daniel’s ‘Woju’ would become a hit. He answered by giving some credit to Emperor Geezy for pushing the song and went ahead to describe his sound as a blend of Church and the ‘Cultural’ which is part of what made ‘Woju’ a win.
In response to Ife’s question on his production process, DJ Coublon made it clear that it’s different for each artiste – he makes sure a Tekno doesn’t sound similar to a kiss Daniel. Rexx brought Fiokee (insanely talented guitarist) into the picture wondering about how he started working with DJ Coublon. Apparently, they met up at Iyanya’s studio and it was a fly experience for Coublon knowing it was the same dude (Fiokee) that played the guitar on DBanj’s ‘Scapegoat’. He spoke about how the song ‘Ferrari’ from Yemi Alade’s ‘Mama Africa’ album was put together.
The soft-spoken and charming DJ Coublon is behind bold hits like, Woju, Laye, and Good time by Kiss Daniel, Lekwa Uku and Applaudise by Iyanya, Wash and Duro by Tekno….
