We go like birds
Migrating in large numbers
Leaving a place with little
To that of ‘more’
We go like birds
Excitement in our voices
We go without a backward glance
Only stopping for food
Our destination filling our minds
The prospect of seeing our destination
Alone fills our tummy
We go like birds
One from each family
Going in a group
A sense of family
We go like birds
We picture our destination
And we sing
Freedom!
Life!
Food!
Jobs!
We go like birds
Our sacks hung around us
Leaving our bad leaders
Leaving our families
Our fathers
Our mothers
Our children
We have reached our destination
A few months
Some, we lost on our way
The few that survived the journey….the little few
We have seen the place
The place of ‘more’
Thought, it seems we have lesser here than more
We have lost our dignity
We have lost ourselves
We came like birds
Hoping for more
We found less though
We shouldn’t have left home
We should have stayed
