The Nightime t-shirt design is a representation of love and fun and the
night life on the streets of Lagos’
Jaywalcar started in 2006, with the creative director being Olayinka
Iyinolakan. Jaywalcar was first Jarett Cartiniy which is Olayinka’s
nickname but he changed it to Jaywalcar in 2009. Jaywalcar is pronounced
Jaywalker. It means a reckless pedestrian who crosses a street illegally.
This represents the force that drives the brand. The attractive brand logo
called the “split splatter” or “high velocity splatter” represents the
element of suprise and breathtaking effects the products possess.
Olayinka was always in love with graphic design, but got into fashion when
he started sketching shoes for himself because of the difficulty of
finding himself decent size 15 shoes. He got into fashion fully when he
decided to put his graphic designs on t-shirts. His designs are inspired
by his perspective on his environment, mostly music and sports. Whatever
he creates, he assures, will be colourful and puzzling. He makes T-shirts,
jackets, Shoes, Snapbacks, Sporting Equipments.
Scrapers Gatz Get Root (SGGR) is the first and pilot design on the
NighTime series. With its colourful and artistic look during the day and
its breathtaking luminous features at night, NighTime shirts are
definitely full of class. The shirt conserves sunlight during the day and
glows at night or in dimly lit places, but can also be intentionally
charged with d use of a fluorescent bulb or even a cell phone’s LCD light.
