I wrote this poem about a relationship between a deaf and a hearing person, I read a article about couple like this last week and I watched a video on YouTube showing a deaf woman hearing for the first time and it made me think. Between the article and the video this is the outcome, I hope you guys like it.
He was never good at explaining how he felt,
so the first time he kissed her
his words played hide and seek with his thoughts
and left him speechless ,
that moment was like a movie in a foreign language
and onlookers were just smiling at their subtitles,
They would have never known if her slight hearing
wasn’t aided at times her loudest days would turn to silent nights,
They would have never known she barely heard his first “I love you”
Or that she spent more time focusing on his lips
for communication than she did for affection,
see from an early age,
the musicians in her brain slowly lost their motivation
to bless her eardrums with the sweet chaotic sounds of society,
leaving her one sense less to make amends with this senseless world,
and in a way that freed her,
freed her from mischievous words
aimed at them with bad intentions
like premeditated ignorance
But just like alcohol on an open wound
the pain was always temporary
cause real love was always the sweetest remedy
Time and patience flowed through his veins
his ego was placed on the ground just to give him
a stepping stone to see past her limitations
They were always able to take a few steps back
in this art gallery of life and focus on the bigger picture,
her misinterpreted voice always seemed to guide their hands
to paint a better picture of the world
But just because she wasn’t blessed
with the ability to hear his words
doesn’t mean she can’t feel the 60 echoing beats
under his ribs that all scream her name every minute they’re together,
A lot of relationships fail because of communication
But their lack of communication, just makes their connection that much stronger
People question why they’re together,
They ask how could he be with a woman
that couldn’t connect with him in the ways
they would expect her too,
but in my mind they’re all deaf
cause they’ll never understand how it feels to listen to their heart
